2012-2013 Classroom Policies                                                                                                                           Mrs. Chidsey, Room 512

All district and DCHS policies apply and will be enforced.

   Students should:

1.       Work toward a positive educational climate. Keep hands, feet, or other objects to yourself. Understand that when you are talking to a classmate, both of you and the person you are talking to are missing valuable instruction.

2.       Be seated when class is scheduled to begin and remain seated unless you are given permission by me to leave your seat. District policy defines “on time” as being in your seat before the bell rings. Sanctions for being tardy will be enforced.

3.       Be prepared for class with binder, notebook paper, and writing instrument.

4.       Wait to be dismissed by me when the bell rings. As you leave, see that your immediate desk area is clean.

5.       Raise your hand and wait to be called on to speak. Please do not speak when I am.

6.       Be cooperative and avoid off-task behavior such as talking, sleeping, staring into space, writing social notes and texting during instructional time, etc.

7.       Refrain from having/selling candy, gum, food or beverages. Screw-top bottled water is the only acceptable beverage permitted in the classroom.

8.       Be responsible for the completion of work that is your own. Cheating (turning in work that is not your own) will result in a zero for the test or assignment for you and the person you cheated from.

9.   Take control of your own learning by completing assigned work/homework and checking in the designated area for work missed due to absences.

 10.   Communicate with me. If you are truly ill or having the absolute worst day of your life due to tragic circumstances, please let me know at the start of class so I can work with your situation.

 11.   Leave cell phones in the “off” mode. Having it on vibrate does not count. If I hear it, you lose it.

*I will allow the use of cell phones for research purposes or to listen to music with ear buds during individual study at times specifically stated by me.

 12.   Passes will not be issued to lockers, other classes, or the last 10 minutes of class except for obvious emergencies.

I have received a copy of the 2012-2013Classroom Procedures for Mrs. Chidsey’s class and have shown them to my parents/caregiver. This is indicated by my signature below.

Dear Parents/Caregivers:

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year at Desoto County High School. My name is Julie Chidsey, and I am a second-year teacher in the Social Studies department. I am very excited about this school year and I plan on bringing my joy and excitement for learning to your child through the subjects I am teaching.

I am a firm believer that every child is a unique individual who has the ability to learn.  I also believe that each child must be taught in a way that caters to their style of learning, stimulates their interest, and fosters a love of learning. Our children need to be problem solvers. I will do my best to help them achieve this goal; however, I cannot do this without your help and participation.

The relationship between parent/caregiver and teacher is essential for your child’s success. At the bottom of this letter I have requested your contact information. Once you fill it out, cut the bottom portion and have your child return it to me. Throughout the year I will communicate through telephone calls, emails, report cards, and parent-teacher conferences.   Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You may call the school and leave a message for me to return your call, or you may send an email message to

I have attached my 2012-2013 Classroom Policies to this letter. Please take a moment to go over them with your child and acknowledge that you have read them by signing where indicated. Once I see that both you and your child have acknowledged receipt of my policies, I will have your child place these policies in their binder.

Once again, welcome to the new school year. I look forward to getting to know your child while working with him/her to achieve success.

Julie Chidsey
